Monika Schnarre

Monika Schnarre 'stepping up' to save lives.
It's not unusual for Monika Schnarre to work out by "running stairs." In fact, the well-known TV host and former model can run up and down 130 stairs 10 times near her cottage in Northern Ontario with ease every day – as well as in California when she runs up and down the famed 170 Santa Monica Stairs. Yet, when she participated in 7 Summits last year, she was surprised she could actually climb the 7,700 steps. "It's really a wonderful experience. There's great camaraderie and lots of cheering when you finish. It's a team-building exercise that every company should come out and do for a good cause."

This year, Monika Schnarre is pleased to be acting as the 7 Summits official spokesperson. "The Heart and Stroke Foundation is near and dear to my heart. I have a family history of heart disease – my maternal grandfather died of complications from a stroke and my grandmother had high blood pressure and heart disease for the last half of her life. Even my dad and mom have heart problems."

With this kind of family background, Monika knows the importance of AEDs. "Everyone has the power to save a life, with the proper training and tools. That's why the Heart and Stroke Foundation is working to install lifesaving AEDs, and train personnel in their use, in communities across Ontario. I'm climbing again this year to help get the message out and support a great cause – not to mention doing a great workout!"
