How AEDs Save Lives

Save Lives With Every Step

Approximately 40,000 cardiac arrests occur in Canada every year, and for every minute that passes without help, a victim's chance of surviving drops by about 10%. Early defibrillation with an AED, coupled with CPR, can more than double cardiac arrest survival rates.

The Heart&Stroke Restart a Heart, Restart a Life program supports resuscitation programs, including CPR training and the placement of AEDs, in communities throughout Ontario. Foundation-funded and placed AEDs have already saved 16 lives. With your help, we can save countless more.

Bob Wilson

Bob Wilson, cardiac arrest survivor

Bob collapsed from cardiac arrest at his local pool one morning after his daily 50 length swim. Thankfully an Automated External Defibrillator, placed in the community centre only 4 months before, helped bring him back to life.

"Without the defibrillator being on the premises, I probably would not be here today. My heart-felt thanks and appreciation go out to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and all its supporters for working to install AEDs in all public recreation facilities."

Glenn Arthur

Glenn Arthur, cardiac arrest survivor

Glenn collapsed from cardiac arrest while playing old timers' hockey in North Bay. Thankfully an Automated External Defibrillator in the arena helped bring him back to life.

"All I can say is thank you, big time, to the people who saved my life, and to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario who supported the placement of that AED."
